In the spring, Jim participated in a
course on hiking and camping.
To augment the 10 weekly 3-hour classroom sessions
there were 4 camping trips on the schedule.
Our first trip was a car camp to the desert area of Fish Creek,
near Elephant Knees in the Anza Borrego State Park.
Here our trip leader, Jeff (in light blue),
goes over the practical aspects of compass and map use.
At Elephant Knees, we make the long ascent
from the dry riverbed below.
We successfully make the top and take in the
spectacular desert below.
