Jim and his college friends visit
Zion National Park in October.
Their first outing is wading up-river through The Narrows.
Here Lee, Art, Monte, and Thad check out the nearly vertical canyon walls.
In most places, the river runs wall to wall,
so wading in the cold mountain run-off is the only way to travel.
After a short while in the river our feet and legs
have good circulation, despite the cold water, and we know
we can enjoy the fantastic world surrounding us.
This is the biggest flat land we encounter,
so we stop here to enjoy the view
and have some lunch.
We wade through pools and past
the pebbles that have dropped down from above.
